Brrrrr in Berlin!

For the 3 day weekend, we drove up to Berlin. Two of our friends rode with us. My car got soooo dirty on the drive, but Tom is such a nice guy that he washed it for me when we got back on Monday afternoon.

Our hotel was very nice and in a great location. We were able to walk almost everywhere all weekend. When we arrived, we checked in to our rooms and then headed out on the town. First stop was this adorable outdoor bar. We stopped in, snuggled up, and all had a cup of gluwein!

We continued our walk and stumbled upon a protest. We all though it was very appropriate to witness a public protest in Berlin so we followed at a safe distance on the other side of the street.

We managed to avoid the Polizei barricades and pose for some photo ops in front of a piece of the Berlin Wall, with a giant bear which is the mascot of the city of Berlin, and then in front of the Brandenburg gate.

Later, we went out to dinner at the very fun Asian cuisine restaurant.
The next day we headed straight for Checkpoint Charlie and the Checkpoint Charlie museum. Taking photos with the guard was fun and we learned a lot of about Berlin and it's history in the museum.

After moseying around the museum, we took a nice brisk walk along the Tiergarten to a more metropolitan part of town and the new Sony Center. We were not that impressed with the Sony Center so we quickly moved on to the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedachtnis-Kirche. The church was almost completely destroyed during World War II. The people of Berlin voted to keep the church's remains in place as a memorial to the horrors of war.

After the church, we did a little souvenir shopping and then hailed a cab back to the hotel because it was starting to rain. The concierge made us a dinner reservation at this great Italian restaurant right down the street. We had a very nice dinner and then called it a night.

The next morning we slept in and then enjoyed our free hotel breakfast buffet and packed up for our drive back to Wiesbaden. We all agreed it was a fun filled trip!
