Heidelberg Castle

My friend and I went to visit the Heidelberg Castle. It was really neat, we did an audio tour and learned some interesting things about the castle. It started to get very windy and cold towards the end of our tour of the castle so we didn't stay too long, we were glad to get back in the warm car!

We had to walk up a lot of steps from the parking lot to get up to the castle because it is on a big hill overlooking the river.

Here is the Elizabeth Gate built by Friedrich V in 1615, for his English Princess, Elizabeth. It is rumored to have been built in one night.

We were listening to the audio guide tell us about a very large wine barrel. We thought this was it, but nooooo

There is an even BIGGER one around the corner! It is the biggest wine barrel I have ever seen! It holds 58,100 gallons of wine and was built in 1751 using approximately 130 oak trees. You can walk up the stairs and stand on top of it.

Here is the view from the window on top of the wine barrel
